Ranch to Table: Olive Oil tasting + Demo with McEvoy Ranch

Join Chef and Educator, Jacquelyn Buchanan from McEvoy Ranch, in the Sunset Outdoor Test Kitchen at Cornerstone for an olive oil tasting and demo, while sipping McEvoy Ranch’s most popular wines!

McEvoy Ranch is one of the country’s largest producers of estate-grown certified organic, extra virgin olive oil.

Chef Jacquelyn, previously the Julia Child Director of Culinary Programs at COPIA, will be demonstrating delicious ways to use McEvoy Ranch’s 2018 Traditional Blend Olive Oil. You will learn how to make several dishes at home with McEvoy Ranch’s estate-produced organic olive oil, all while relaxing at Cornerstone Sunset Gardens + Marketplace. Following the demonstration, taste McEvoy Ranch’s newest wines which pair perfectly with the delicious dishes Chef Jacquelyn will make. Guests will also receive recipe cards while exploring other offerings from the Ranch, including the acclaimed eco-luxe prestige natural beauty line, ODE.

The Health Benefits of High Quality Olive Oil

The Quail and Olive and the California Olive Oil Council will be hosting a lecture by Dr. Mary Flynn PhD, RD, LDN on September 24 from 4:30-6pm at The Quail and Olive in Carmel Valley Village. Dr. Flynn will discuss the health and lifestyle benefits of using high quality olive oils. Beverages and light appetizers will be served.

Mary M. Flynn, PhD, RD, LDN is an Associate Professor of Medicine (Clinical) at Brown University and teaches courses in nutrition at Brown, and lectures on nutrition in the Albert Medical School. She has been a research dietitian at The Miriam Hospital (Providence, RI) since 1984. Her main research interest is how food can be used as medicine and her main food of interest is extra virgin olive oil, which she has been researching since 1998. In 2013, she founded The Olive Oil Health Initiative of The Miriam Hospital at Brown University that has a mission of educating the public and medical community on the health benefits of extra virgin olive oil. In 1999, she developed a plant-based, olive oil diet that she has tested for weight loss and improvement in clinical biomarkers for chronic disease in women diagnosed with invasive breast cancer; in men with prostate cancer; and to decrease food insecurity in low-income groups. She worked with McAuley House, Providence, RI to develop the Healing Foods program, which has a goal of combating type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity and heart disease that disproportionately impacts those living in poverty.
